Ryan’s path to East Asian medicine began in Taiwan, where he first started studying Chinese Medicine alongside traditional martial arts. It was there that he learned gua sha from the late Master Ho Tsong Yuan. That early hands-on experience sparked a lifelong interest in practical, low-tech medicine.
Ryan holds full national board certification in Chinese Medicine, covering both acupuncture and Chinese herbology. After finishing his formal medical studies, he completed a post-graduate clinical residency under Scott Paglia at the Acupuncture Health Center in Bellingham, WA. His clinical background also includes integrative hospital and clinic internships at the Quest Center for Integrative Medicine and Providence Portland Medical Center, where he worked with multidisciplinary care teams to support patients through complex health challenges.
Before stepping into full-time clinical practice, Ryan spent years in education, teaching public speaking and coaching debate at Idaho State University and Northwest Indian College, as well as serving in tribal administration for the Chilkoot Indian Association where he is an enrolled member. His time in the classroom and working with diverse communities taught him the value of clear, compassionate communication.
When he’s not in the clinic, Ryan stays busy training Taijiquan, rucking, and spending time on the land. He loves spending quality time at home with his partner, Holly, and their two cats.
